In an experiment<\/a>, an extraneous variable<\/strong> is any variable that you\u2019re not investigating that can potentially affect the outcomes of your research study.<\/p>\n If left uncontrolled, extraneous variables can lead to inaccurate conclusions about the relationship between independent and dependent variables<\/a>. They can also introduce a variety of research biases<\/a> to your work, particularly selection bias<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n
